This week on Health Tech Weekly, I bring you another special segment from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Conference, NTI 2013. Nurses are the last line of defense in medication safety in the hospital. I chatted with critical care nurse Tina Suess from Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania who is working with a system where the IV infusion pumps used to deliver medications are talking to the computers at the pharmacy. This makes sure they give the correct medication at the correct rate, avoiding human error when inputing information on the pump’s keypad.
